| CITY:
NATAL – STATE OF RIO GRANDE DO NORTE |
 |
Natal, the capital of the state of Rio Grande do Norte,
is known as the City of the Sun, which shines over it
more than 300 days a year. The city’s name comes
from the date on which it was founded: Christmas Day
(in Portuguese, “Natal”) of 1599. Its busy
Augusto Severo international airport receives domestic
flights from all over the country and international
flights from Europe and the United States.
Its soft white sand dunes and its beaches with their
blue water and natural pools are the chief delights
of this beautiful city in the Northeast of Brazil. Besides
its excellent tourist infrastructure, Natal offers many
alternatives for shopping, such as the modern malls
found throughout the city and the local arts and crafts
sold in open markets and particularly in the Old Jail
building, which houses a large number of antique stores
and arts and crafts shops.
